Crypto Exchange Hack Litigation & Blockchain Forensic Analysis

Blockchains may be public ledgers where anyone can see the movement of coins between wallets, but they are anonymous ledgers where the linkage between the coins and the owner, controller, hacker, or whomever is doing the moving is anonymous. Thus, the ability to recover hacked coins, assign liability, or associate payers and payees with any particular real world transaction depends entirely on attribution, which is to say, the systematic gathering of information pertaining to a certain wallet, and assumptions–some more logical than others–about the conclusions to be drawn about that information vis-a-vis the control person.
